In the fall of 2017, the Inner City Christian Federation acquired 213 housing units across Grand Rapids with a mission: revitalize and restore homes for families in the neighborhood while preserving them as affordable housing. Green renovation became part of the promise.
Working with GreenStar assessor David Meeder, ICCF ran each home through a Home Energy Score and GreenHome Inspection before renovation and again after — so every certificate represents measured improvement, not intent. Twelve homes have earned GreenStar Renovation certification, with post-renovation Home Energy Scores of 5 or better out of 10.
It's the renovation counterpoint to the custom net-zero builds in this collection: modest homes, modest budgets, verified results — repeated across a neighborhood.
