Steps from Michigan's State Capitol, Capitol Park proves that green certification belongs in affordable housing. The two-building, 48-unit development was financed with low-income housing tax credits, designed by Concept Design Studio, and built by Rockford Construction — and every unit certified GreenStar Silver.
Each apartment is all-electric with a right-sized heat pump; gas appears only in common areas and shared dryers. The units average a HERS Index of 62 with modeled energy use around 23.3 MBTU per unit — efficiency that flows straight into residents' monthly budgets. Eight units are permanently reserved for project-based housing vouchers with full ADA accessibility.
For funders and housing agencies, the certification is a quality floor: third-party verification that the housing they financed is healthy, efficient, and durable.
